The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced a significant relief for the consumer electronics industry by extending IS 18112:2022 compliance deadline extension and the timeline for mandatory compliance with Indian Standard IS 18112:2022.
As per the latest update, the implementation of the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 for Television Sets has been deferred.
The New IS 18112:2022 compliance deadline extension
Manufacturers and importers of Television Sets now have an extension of six months to meet the statutory requirements.

- Revised Deadline: 26th July 2026
What is IS 18112:2022?
IS 18112:2022 specifies the requirements for Digital Television Receivers for Satellite Broadcast Transmission. The government has mandated that all television sets sold in India must have built-in satellite tuners to receive Free-to-Air (FTA) channels without needing a separate set-top box.
Who is Affected?
This order applies to all entities involved in the supply chain of Television Sets in India:
- Domestic Manufacturers: Must upgrade production lines to include compliant satellite tuners.
- Importers: Must ensure that imported units are tested and registered with BIS under the new standard before the deadline.
- Sellers/Traders: Cannot sell non-compliant inventory manufactured after the effective date.
Impact on the Industry
This extension comes as a respite for stakeholders who faced challenges in upgrading hardware designs and securing BIS certification within the original January timeline. The additional time will allow for smoother transition and testing of models to ensure they meet the Quality Control Order (QCO) norms.
